Mindfulness 101

The essence of mindfulness lies in witnessing one's present experience without attachment or reactivity. During mindfulness practice, any thoughts that emerge are acknowledged and allowed to flow away. By directing attention to one's breath, a stable state of presence is cultivated.

So what distinguishes Breathful from other meditation timer applications?

Breathful provides a practical framework for users to engage in ten-minute sessions dedicated to mindfulness practice.

Users can actively monitor each session by logging "distractions." At the conclusion of a session, the log is archived with the date, time, and number of distractions recorded. Observing a decline in average distractions serves as an indicator of effective mindfulness practice.

Instructions for Using Breathful:
<ul>
 <li>A new session begins by tapping on the timer circle, initiating a ten-minute countdown.</li>
 <li>If the user taps the screen at any point during the timer's operation, a "distraction" will be noted.</li>
</ul>
Note: Users have discretion in defining what constitutes a "distraction." It may be pertinent to consider whether minor distractions warrant recording, as this is subjective.
